Tutorial: How to Add a Video on Showit

Adding a video to your Showit website can be an excellent way to engage visitors. Whether it's a YouTube video, Vimeo, or a self-hosted video, Showit makes it easy to embed and customize the video player to match your site’s style.

Watch the video

Step 1: Choose Your Video Source

Decide where your video will come from. You have three main options:

  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • Self-hosted video (MP4)

For this tutorial, we’ll focus on embedding a video from YouTube and Vimeo, but the process is similar for self-hosted files.

Step 2: Add a Video Embed

  1. Open the Showit Canvas view and navigate to the page or section where you want to place the video.
  2. From the left toolbar, click the “+” icon and select Embed Code.
  3. Paste the embed code of your video (from YouTube or Vimeo) into the embed box.
  • For YouTube: Go to the video on YouTube, click Share > Embed, and copy the code.
  • For Vimeo: Go to the video, click Share > Embed, and copy the code.

Tip: If you’re using a self-hosted video, upload it to your site’s Media Library and copy the file’s URL, then embed it using the HTML5 <video> tag.

Step 3: Customize the Video Display

  1. Once the video embed is added, you can resize it using the corner drag handles to adjust the dimensions.
  2. You can also adjust the alignment and spacing in the right-hand panel to fine-tune the position.
  3. Use the Design panel to apply styles like rounded corners or borders around the video player.

Step 4: Mobile Optimization

Make sure your video is responsive and looks good on mobile devices:

  1. Use the Mobile View in Showit’s Canvas to check the video’s positioning.
  2. If needed, adjust the size or alignment for smaller screens to ensure a smooth user experience.
  3. Optionally, hide or resize the video on mobile for better performance.

Adding videos to your Showit site can boost engagement, making your content more interactive. Whether you’re embedding a YouTube tutorial, a product video, or a portfolio highlight, Showit gives you the flexibility to display your videos beautifully.
